Our Guignol show is a typical mix of slapstick and comedy that you find in the traditional french shows - performed in english with french words and phrases it is ideal for schools, french markets and french themed events. The Show can be booked with Guignol walkabout body booths and includes a character french puppeteer.
Guignol and the Prize Pink Pig
Guignol is off to market with Madelon and he asks Gnafron to look after Charlotte the Donkey while he is away, but Gnafron falls asleep and Charlotte wanders off. When the farmers prize pig is stolen Gnafron is arrested by the Gendarme. Can Guignol catch the real thief and save his friend from prison? What happened to the Pig and where is Charlotte the Donkey?
Guignol was first created in the early 1800's in France by an unemployed silk weaver from Lyon, when performed in french Guignol still retains typical lyonnaise words and accents and he is as familiar a figure across France as Mr Punch is in Britain due to the popularity in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries of travelling Guignol shows.
Guignol always wears a brown coat, and black cap with a long pigtail peeking out, typical of lyonnais silk weavers of the period. He has a mischievous look and a rebellious spirit evident in the shows which began by satirising local politics and the authorities but like Punch & Judy have in recent years become entertainment primarily for children
